Places outside of Jeddah to visit
in the Kingdom (a weekend trip)
Marble Village
(Baha)
A little further afield, but still reachable
over the weekend. The Marble Village
alone is well worth a trip.
The
Crater
It took us two attempts to reach the crater.
The first attempt we were let down by too many
flat tyres,
but Brian got us there the
second time.
Madain
Saleh
No question at all, visit here.
This is where
the Nabateans headed after building Petra, and you'll also
see parts of the Hejaz
Railway. True Lawrence of Arabia
country.
Abha
and Khamis Mushayt
Fly and get a rental car, allowing access to
the beauty of Khamis Mushayt and
Najran in
the heart of the Asir Region. Rolling sands in the
desert lead on into the Empty
Quarter.
Najran
A trading town in the centre of Bedouin
country, Najran, complete with its mud
fort is well worth a visit into the Empty
Quarter.
Wadi
Turbah
It lived up to its name, a wide expanse
of water surrounded by the biggest trees
I'd seen in Saudi.
Riyadh
The capital, and totally devoid of road signs
in English!
Eastern
Province (Dhahran, Dammam and Al Khobar)
Oil country.
